New students can begin with our "Hatha Yoga" or "Stiff Bodies/ Basics" drop-in classes, or with The Foundations of Shadow Yoga Course.

The weekly Drop-in classes can be joined at any time and are appropriate for people with no yoga experience as well as continuing students. Just show up.

Foundation Of Shadow Yoga Course. This seven-session course is offered each quarter by preregistration. After successful completion, it can then be repeated on a drop-in basis. Students on the Monthly Unlimited plan may also attend on a drop-in basis.


 
 
 
Come with an empty stomach (allow at least 3 hours after a meal - more time is even better).

Please do not wear any scents or perfumes.

Classes begin on time, so please arrive early to settle in.

Be sure to turn your cell phone off, or better yet, leave it in the car.

Mats and props are provided by the studio, but it is best to acquire your own yoga mat. We have them for sale at the Shala.

Please inform the instructor of any injuries or health problems prior to the start of class.


 
  CLASS TYPES
AND DESCRIPTION:
 

DROP-IN CLASSES
-these meet weekly and can be joined at anytime. They are for new students through intermediate level:

Hatha Yoga -a mixed level class based in the principles of Shadow Yoga. These classes build a solid foundation in mind and body through working the preparatory stances and seats, primary asanas, and basic breath work. Bandhas are introduced.

Stiff Bodies / Basics - a preparatory class to designed to open the joints and muscles and teach the basics. Designed for those who want a gradual lead-in for our regular Hatha Yoga classes.


SERIES CLASSES
-from 6-12 sessions with each class building upon the previous class. Students learn a sequential practice in depth. Preregistration required, with drop-in available for students who meet the qualifications.

Foundations of Shadow Yoga Course - Our Foundations Course is offered on a continual basis. It meets weekly for 7 sessions and is by pre-registration with drop-in OK for repeats or Monthly Unlimited Memberships. In this course students progressively learn a one-hour practice form which will build strength, stamina, and flexiblity combined with improved mental focus. It is designed to prepare students to eventually learn the 3 Shadow Yoga Prelude Forms. Please see the Foundations of Shadow Yoga for full details.

Shadow Yoga Prelude Forms - There are three Forms which are taught in multisession courses. Please refer to the Training Program link for a full description and the Workshops page for a list of current offerings.

1. Shadow Yoga I - Balakrama (stepping into strength)

2. Shadow Yoga II - Chaya Yoddha Sanchalanam (churning of the shadow warrior)

3. Shadow Yoga III - Kartikeya Mandala (garland of light)

Individualized Asana - in these courses each student's practice is individualized for their unique needs with the instructor providing hands-on adjustment through the marma system. Knowledge of one of the Shadow forms is required. This is the traditional way of learning asana and brings faster progress than is possible in a general group setting. Please refer to the Individualized Asana Course for a full description.

Special Focus Courses - Various courses for beginner through advanced students focusing on pranayama, meditation, asana, philosophy and other topics are offered throughout the year. Please refer to the Workshops page for a list of current offerings

Chinese Internal Arts - Qigong, Taiji Form, and partnered exercises.

Mindfulness (Vipassana) Meditation - join Ernest Isaacs for this guided meditation and discussion. Payment is by donation. All are welcome and may join at any time.
